Baseball throws seven-inning no hitter in season opening doubleheader
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (February 2, 2024) – The Milligan University baseball team belted four home runs and had three pitchers combine for a seven-inning no hitter against Rio Grande on opening day at Anglin Field on Friday afternoon.

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (February 2, 2024) – The Milligan University baseball team belted four home runs and had three pitchers combine for a seven-inning no hitter against Rio Grande on opening day at Anglin Field on Friday afternoon.
Milligan launched three home runs in an 8-1 game one victory. Jacob Poe, Josh Topper and Jacob Bishop combined for the program's first seven-inning no-hitter since 2018 as the Buffs took a 13-0 game two win.
Milligan moves to 2-0 on the season while Rio Grande falls to 0-4.
Game 1 – Milligan 8, Rio Grande 1 (7 innings)
Opening day starter Andrei Beal struck out 11 and allowed just three baserunners in five scoreless innings.
Vasili Kaloudis ripped a two-run double in the first inning, Ryan Molinari basked a three-run homer in the third and Caleb Berry launched a solo home run in the fourth as Milligan led 6-0 when Beal excited the game.
The Red Storm scored on the ground out in the top of the sixth but Roangeraud Fraai responded with a long ball of his own to bring the score to its final margin of 8-1.
Fraai and Berry each had two hits with one home run. Molinari drove in four and Kaloudis had two RBI. Patrick Collins allowed one run over the final two innings.
Game 2 – Milligan 13, Rio Grande 0 (7 innings)
Poe struck out seven over five innings in his first start since the 2021 campaign. He allowed just two baserunners with a pair of walks. Topper struck out one in a scoreless sixth and Bishop clinched the no-hit bid with a pair of strikeouts in the seventh.
Berry hit his second homer of the day in the first inning to give Milligan a 1-0 lead. Kaloudis smacked a three-run double and Angel Lobo drove in two runs in a seven-run third inning. Lobo doubled in Gaven Jones in the fourth to give Milligan a 10-0 edge.
Jones tripled in a run in the sixth and Cade Kalehuawehe plated Jones and Lobo in the sixth to bring the score to 13-0.
Kaloudis and Lobo each drove in three runs. Berry, Spano, Jones and Lobo scored two runs apiece.
Milligan and Rio Grande meet again tomorrow at Anglin Field for another doubleheader. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
