Hullette, Guzman, Spano and Mathias named Academic All-District by CSC
AUSTIN, Texas (May 16, 2023) – Milligan University baseball players Logan Hullette, Anthony Guzman, Braden Spano and Andrew Mathias were honored as Academic All-District honorees by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday.
AUSTIN, Texas (May 16, 2023) – Milligan University baseball players Logan Hullette, Anthony Guzman, Braden Spano and Andrew Mathias were honored as Academic All-District honorees by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday.
Hullette graduated with a 4.0 in business in April after a breakout 2023 campaign. He earned All-Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) First Team honors after leading the Buffs in batting with a .381 average this spring. He racked up 18 extra-base hits and drove in 36 runs. Hullette had two hitting streaks of at least 10 games during the season as he served as Milligan's leadoff batter the second half of the season.
Guzman graduated this spring with a business degree from Milligan. He owned a 3.80 GPA and closed his Milligan career as a .347 hitter over in over 500 career at-bats. Guzman was an All-AAC Second Team selection in 2021 and an AAC Gold Glove Team pick in 2022. He posted his best single-season batting average of his career with a .367 mark in 2023. He hit seven home runs and drove in 35 runs. In just three seasons with the Buffs, he eclipsed 100 runs scored and 100 RBI.
Spano is a rising senior with a 3.53 cumulative GPA as a business major. He was an All-AAC Second Team honoree in 2022 and set Milligan's all-time doubles record (52) this season. Spano ranked third in the AAC in 2023 with 18 doubles. He hit five home runs and drove in 37 this spring.
Mathias is an exercise science major with a 3.50 cumulative GPA. A two-year starter at shortstop, he had a hand in 22 double plays and ranked 12 in the conference with 92 assists. Mathias hit .294 with five home runs and 26 RBI in 2023.
CSC's Academic All-District program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom. To be eligible for the award, voted on by Athletic Communication professionals, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative 3.50 GPA or higher and must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.
