Baseball falls at No. 12 Cumberlands 6-4 in midweek matchup
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (March 21, 2023) – The Milligan University baseball team lost 6-4 at No. 12 Cumberlands in a competitive midweek matchup at Doyle Buhl Stadium on Tuesday.

Milligan falls to 16-12 on the year while Cumberlands rises to 23-4.
Starting pitcher Joe Ducharme held the Patriots off the scoreboard in the game's first five innings as Milligan led 2-0 going into the sixth.
Logan Hullette threw out a baserunner attempting to steal to close out the first and the Milligan infield turned double plays in the second and fifth innings.
The Buffs got on the scoreboard in the third inning as Hullette smacked a two-out double and courtesy runner Kobe Miles scored on a base hit by Angel Lobo to give Milligan a 1-0 lead.
Caleb Berry's bases loaded single brought the Buffs' edge to 2-0 in the fifth.
Cumberlands came roaring back in the sixth as the Patriots took advantage of three walks, a hit batter and a wild pitch. The hosts also had five hits in the inning to bring home five runs and take a 5-2 lead.
The Buffs used two walks and a single to load the bases in the eighth. Jack Sutton brought home Caleb Berry with a sacrifice fly and Brandon Marello singled in Gage Huffman to bring the score to 5-4.
Cumberlands opened the home half of the eighth inning with a solo home run to make it a 6-4 ballgame. The Buffs went down in order in the ninth.
Durcharme was tagged with his first loss of the year. He allowed just one hit and no runs over the first four innings, but the Patriots tagged him for five runs on four hits in the fifth.
Hullette reached base four times with two hits, two walks and a double. Lobo had two hits, a double and RBI. Marello also went 2-4 with a double, run scored and RBI.
The Buffs travel to Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Union this weekend.
