Comeback lifts Baseball to series win over KCU
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (March 19, 2023) – The Milligan University baseball team overcame a late three-run deficit and emerged with an 8-6 victory and an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series win over Kentucky Christian on a chilly Sunday afternoon at Anglin Field.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (March 19, 2023) – The Milligan University baseball team overcame a late three-run deficit and emerged with an 8-6 victory and an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series win over Kentucky Christian on a chilly Sunday afternoon at Anglin Field.
At the halfway point of the conference season for the Buffs, Milligan moves to 16-11 overall and 6-9 in AAC play. KCU falls to 12-14, 3-11 AAC.
The Knights established an early 4-0 lead in the first two innings of action. The Buffs brought home a run in the second inning to make it a 4-1 ballgame.
Milligan loaded the bases with two outs in the third and Braden Spano delivered with a two-run single to bring the margin to 4-3 KCU.
The Knights added an unearned run in the fourth and another run in the sixth to lead 6-3 going into the seventh.
Caleb Berry singled home Kobe Miles and Spano ripped a two-out, two-run double to deep right field to tie the game at six.
In the eighth, Angel Lobo brought home the go-ahead runs by plating Miles and Ryan Molinari with a single into right field to give Milligan an 8-6 edge.
KCU put the leadoff runner on in the ninth to bring the tying run to the plate, but Creed Werker retired the side to clinch the 8-6 win.
Werker threw 7.2 innings in relief, allowing six hits, two runs, one earned with five strikeouts and no walks.
Spano was 2-4 with four runs batted in, all with two outs, and a double. Logan Hullette had two hits and his courtesy runner Miles scored three times and stole two bases.
Milligan travels to No. 12 Cumberlands on Tuesday for a nonconference midweek matchup.
