Jimmy Gamboa named AAC Pitcher of the Week

WALESKA, Ga. (March 13, 2023) – Milligan University graduate student Jimmy Gamboa was tabbed as the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Gamboa, a graduate transfer from UNLV, spun a nine-inning complete game win in a pitchers' dual against Montreat's Case Jaworski in the opening game of the Buffs' series against Montreat on Friday.

The Buffs earned a 3-1 victory in the game that concluded in just over 90 minutes. Both pitchers turned in complete game efforts with double-digit strikeouts. Gamboa punched out 11 and allowed just one earned run on six hits. Jaworski struck out 10 and allowed two runs on three hits.

Gamboa struck out five-straight batters early in the contest and worked out of a runners on second and third with one out jam in the eighth inning.

Gamboa ranks in the top 10 of the AAC in wins, strikeouts and strikeouts per game. He has notched AAC wins against CIU and Montreat this spring.

The Buffs went on to win the series 2-1 with a dramatic 5-4 victory in the final game of the series.

Milligan travels to Cumberland tomorrow for a 2:00 p.m. game before hosting Kentucky Christian this weekend in another AAC three-game series.
