Baseball bounces back with 6-2 win over Pikeville
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (March 8, 2023) – The Milligan University baseball team snapped a six-game losing skid with a 6-2 victory over Pikeville on Wednesday afternoon. The Buffs used a four-run six inning to break a 2-2 tie and secure the nonconference win.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (March 8, 2023) – The Milligan University baseball team snapped a six-game losing skid with a 6-2 victory over Pikeville on Wednesday afternoon. The Buffs used a four-run six inning to break a 2-2 tie and secure the nonconference win.
Both teams notched a run in the first inning. Milligan took a 2-1 lead with an Angel Lobo RBI single in the third and Pikeville tied it at two with a solo home run in the fourth.
In the sixth, Lobo and Caleb Berry singled. Anthony Guzman laid down a bunt to move the runners up and Pikeville threw the ball away attempting to throw him out at first to score Lobo.
Casey Haire knocked an RBI double, Spano had a run-scoring single and the Buffs added a fourth run on a double play to lead 6-2.
Patrick Collins threw the seventh, Creed Werker worked the eighth and Canyon Geren pitched the ninth as the Buffs held on for the win. Joe Ducharme started for the Buffs and allowed two runs in six innings of work to collect the win. Milligan's pitchers stranded a dozen Pikeville base runners.
Lobo went 3-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Berry had two hits and a run.
The Buffs host Montreat this weekend for a three-game Appalachian Athletic Conference series. The first game begins Friday at 4:00 p.m.
