Baseball rolls to 12-2 victory over Alice Lloyd in home opener
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (February 15, 2023) – The Milligan University baseball team defeated Alice Lloyd 12-2 in the Buffs’ home opener at Anglin Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Buffs scored double-digit runs for the fifth time this season and the Buffs’ infield turned four double plays on the day.

Milligan moves to 8-2 on the season while Alice Lloyd falls to 3-2.
Alice Lloyd scored the game's first run in the top of the second inning as a leadoff double was followed by a one-out RBI single to give the Eagles a 1-0 edge.
Milligan responded in the home half of the first with three runs of its own. Caleb Berry led off the inning with a double and scored on a double by Logan Hullette. Pinch runner Kobe Miles scored on a wild pitch and Andrew Mathias was brought home by a sacrifice fly off the bat of Brandon Marello to give Milligan a 3-1 lead.
The Eagles put the leadoff man on in the third but a strikeout and a double play Joe Ducharme out of the inning in three batters. The Buffs added on to their lead in the bottom of the third with Anthony Guzman scoring on a double to right center field by Casey Haire.
The Buffs' edge grew to 8-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Mathias homered, Spano doubled in a pair of runs and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Guzman.
The Buffs' defense notched double plays in the fourth and fifth innings to keep ALC off the scoreboard.
Milligan pushed across four more runs in the fifth as Marello and Lobo both knocked two-run singles to give Milligan a 12-1 edge.
The Buff defense notched a fourth double play of the game in the sixth. The Eagles brought home one run in the frame to make the margin 12-2 Buffs.
The Buffs used five different pitchers in the seven-inning contest. Ducharme threw 2.2 innings and earned the win.
Marello drove in three runs and scored twice. Spano went 3-4 with two RBI and a run. Lobo knocked in two runs. Mathias scored three times and hit his first home run of the season.
The Buffs hit 10-16 (.625) with runners on base and held ALC to 3-15 (.200) in the same situation.
Milligan opens Appalachian Athletic Conference play with a three game series at CIU this weekend.
