Late surge powers baseball past Johnson (Tenn.) for AAC sweep
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (April 11, 2022) – The Milligan University baseball team scored a dozen runs over the final three innings as the Buffs completed an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series sweep over Johnson (Tenn.) with a 16-2 victory on Monday afternoon.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (April 11, 2022) – The Milligan University baseball team scored a dozen runs over the final three innings as the Buffs completed an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series sweep over Johnson (Tenn.) with a 16-2 victory on Monday afternoon.
The Buffs won their 30th game of the season and moved to 16-5 in AAC play this season. The Royals fell to 12-30, 2-22 AAC.
Milligan jumped out to a 4-0 lead after five innings as the Buffs scored a pair of runs on an error in the second, a sacrifice fly in the third and a solo Braden Spano home run in the fifth.
A sacrifice fly made it 5-2 Buffs in the seventh before Milligan exploded for 11 runs in the final two frames.
Milligan racked up five runs on three hits in the eighth, with all three hits recording at least one RBI. Andrew Mathias had a run-scoring single and Casey Haire and Spano both brought home two runs with base hits.
The ninth was a hit parade as Chancery Hall, Justin Greene, Eric Rigsby, Josh Lail and Logan Hullette drove in runs.
Gaven Jones allowed just two runs over six innings to pick up his eight win of the season. Brock Browning did not allow a hit and stuck out five to collect the three-inning save.
Milligan baseball hosts (RV) Cumberlands Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
