Buffs win battle of big innings on senior day
Two big innings from the Buffaloes outdid one big inning from Alice Lloyd in a 14-8 victory the Milligan University baseball team brought home Wednesday at TVA Credit Union Ballpark. The win marked Milligan’s third straight.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 28, 2021) – Two big innings from the Buffaloes outdid one big inning from Alice Lloyd in a 14-8 victory the Milligan University baseball team brought home Wednesday at TVA Credit Union Ballpark. The win marked Milligan's third straight.
Senior Garrett Goldberg went 2-for-3 with two runs and four RBI's at the top of Milligan's lineup while senior Kirby Smith went 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Milligan (27-21, 14-12 AAC) fell behind early after a solo home run from Alice Lloyd in the top of the first then Alice Lloyd retook the lead with a five-run third, but it was nearly all Buffaloes from there. After playing small ball to plate their first three runs in the first two innings, the Buffaloes continued small ball with eight hits, all singles, in the fourth as part of a seven-run inning. Five of those eight singles were infield singles, including one from Casey Haire that gave the Buffs the lead 9-8, then Smith hit a sacrifice fly to make it 10-8.
Milligan added to the lead with four runs on four hits in the sixth. Haire smacked a two-run homer, his second of the season, before Goldberg singled in two runs later in the inning to round out the scoring.
Eight Buffaloes worked into the rotation, most notably Brian Baxa who went two scoreless innings allowing only two hits and striking out five. He picked up the win to improve to 3-0.
Milligan next hosts Montreat in the final series of the regular season this weekend. Teams will play a doubleheader Friday at 1 p.m. at ETSU's Thomas Stadium before finishing the series with a single game Saturday at 3 p.m. at TVA Credit Union Ballpark. The Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament will be next week at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport.
