JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 16, 2021) – Jack Bembry took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning of game one as Milligan University's baseball team defeated Bob Jones 9-0 and 9-0 in a doubleheader Tuesday at TVA Credit Union Ballpark.
The wins brought Milligan's season record to 16-9 (6-3 Appalachian Athletic Conference) with the Buffs' fifth straight win.
Game One | Milligan 9, Bob Jones 0
Bembry finished the opening game with a winning line of six innings, one hit, no runs, three walks and two strikeouts. He only gave up one hit, and it came on a double down the left field line with two out in the sixth. He faced only five over the minimum.
By the time Bob Jones registered its first hit of the day, Milligan already led 6-0. Cade Davis hit a two-run double in the fourth before back-to-back sacrifice flies from Ben Grable and Anthony Guzman brought in two more. Milligan rounded out the scoring in the sixth with a Chancery Hall sacrifice fly and Braden Spano infield single.
Both Hall and Davis finished the first game with two-hit efforts, and Hall closed out the final frame on the hill with a 1-2-3 inning.
Game Two | Milligan 9, Bob Jones 0
Colin Wagner picked up near where Bembry left off. Wagner made the start on the hill and went five innings scattering three hits and four walks while striking out six on his way to the winning decision.
Justin Greene and Hall were the first to drive in runs for the Buffs, doing so in the third inning to make it a 2-0 game, and the Buffs opened the game up one inning after that with a four-run fourth. Robert Salcedo drove in two in that inning on a single to left-center field, then Guzman drove in two with a single up the middle.
Milligan rounded out the scoring with three runs in the fifth, again first coming off a two-RBI single from Salcedo.
Eric Rigsby led Milligan at the dish with a 3-for-4 effort, while three other Buffs registered multiple hits: Greene (2-for-4), Garrett Goldberg (2-for-2) and Salcedo (2-for-3).
