Baseball one-hits Johnson in lopsided road win

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 24, 2021) – Garrett Wilkins and Jack Bembry combined for a one-hit shutout, and the Milligan University baseball team ran away with a 12-0 win at Johnson University Wednesday in nonconference action.
Wilkins went the first six innings with only one hit, two walks and six strikeouts. Bembry closed the door in the seventh facing only one over the minimum via a one-out walk.
By the time Wilkins saw his exit, Milligan was well on its way to it sixth win in the last eight games. Anthony Guzman provided what proved to be the winning RBI with a double to center field in the fourth inning. Two batters later, Justin Greene tripled the lead with a two-RBI single, and the lead would even double from there on a Casey Haire sacrifice fly, Richard Polinsky single and Johnson fielding error.
Chance Hall got in on the RBI action with a two-run double in the sixth, then a Kirby Smith double and back-to-back RBI singles from Brandon Marello and Guzman (two RBI) rounded out the scoring in the top of the seventh.
Guzman (2-for-5) and Greene (2-for-4) each tallied multiple hits. Guzman drove in three runs, and Garrett Goldberg and Marello both scored two runs.
Up next, the Buffs start Appalachian Athletic Conference play with a three-game set at Truett McConnell Thursday and Friday. Thursday will feature a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
