JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 23, 2020) – Juan Vasquez, Chance Hall and Will Oliver each produced three hits while starting pitcher Garrett Wilkins allowed only one run over five innings, and Milligan College's baseball team defeated Shawnee State University 8-5 in the deciding game of a three-game set Sunday afternoon at TVA Credit Union Ballpark.
The win moved the Buffs to 8-6 on the season.
The Buffs broke open the scoring in the second inning and led the rest of the way. Oliver had the RBI on a base hit double to left-center field, scoring Richard Polinsky, then Vasquez singled in a run and scored as part of a two-run third. Milligan went ahead 3-0 before Shawnee State got on the board with a bases-loaded walk in the fifth.
Hall answered back for the Buffs in the bottom of that same inning, doubling home Vasquez before scoring on a Kirby Smith double. This made it 5-1, and the Buffs rounded out their scoring in the seventh on another Smith double, which scored two, and an infield single by Will Findley.
Wilkins picked up the win with a line of five innings, four hits, one earned run, four walks and four strikeouts. Caleb Wilson, Cameron Bryson and Deaglan Malally all saw relief appearances, Malally earning the save.
