2023 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE | SIDNEY BURNS GREATTI
Sidney Burns Greatti graduated from Milligan with a degree in communications in 2011. At Milligan, Sidney excelled as a four year starting pitcher for the softball team. Sidney set and still holds a number of pitching records at Milligan. Some of these records include:
1. Single Season Strikeout Record – 261
2. Single Season Earned Run Average – 0.90
3. Career Strikeout Record – 772
4. Career Earned Run Average – 1.19
Coach Wes Holly captured Sidney’s award winning career well. He stated, “Sid is just a great pitcher. She’s very mental on the mound and has all the pitches. She can basically take over a game. That’s what she’s been doing for us ever since she got here.” After breaking the career strikeout record in her junior year, Coach Holly commented to the press,” We are very, very proud of her. She not only excels on the field, but also in the classroom.”
At Milligan, Sidney was named co-outstanding female athlete of the year in 2011.
Beyond Milligan, Sidney was named the AAC conference pitcher of the year in 2008 and 2009. Beyond Milligan and the AAC Conference, Sidney ranked #1 in assists within the NAIA in 2008 and 2009. She had a perfect fielding percentage in 2011 which, not surprisingly, ranked her #1 in the NAIA. Sidney’s 28 wins in 2008 ranked her as #10 in the NAIA.
Beyond all of that, Sidney represented Milligan as the starting pitcher against the United States Olympic team in 2008.
Both on and off the mound, Sidney demonstrated strong Christian character. She was a witness for Christ to her teammates. An article in the 2011 Milligan Magazine noted the following: “Burns lives out her faith in both her attitudes and actions, looking 1st to God as the source of her abilities.” Sidney added, “Having the perspective that it’s God’s gift to me, and that I need to uplift him and other players, has kind of helped take the pressure off me. It’s more about character building and team building.”
Sidney was voted an NAIA Champions of Character Round Table Member every year she was at Milligan (2007-2011).
Professionally, Sidney works at Chic fil-A’s corporate office where she serves as project lead in food safety.
Sidney and her husband, Nathan- a Milligan grad from 2011, reside in Mableton, GA. with their dogs Murphy and Max. They are excited to welcome their first child in April. The Greattis attend M28 Baptist church.
