2018 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE | KATHERINE MARTINELLI CATLETT
Katherine Martinelli Catlett graduated from Milligan in 1993 with a bachelor of science in health and physical education. She then went on to earn a master of science in exercise science from California University of Pennsylvania.
As a student-athlete, Katherine played softball for Milligan from 1990-1993. She still holds eight Milligan Softball All Time Records:
Career batting average: .422
Single season average: .495
Single season runs scored: 56
Career runs scored: 191
Single season stolen bases: 56/61
Career stolen bases: 146/156
On base percentage: .498
Fielding percentage: .937
Additionally, she was a four-time TVAC All-Conference player, four-time NAIA All-District player, and an Honorable Mention NAIA All-American in 1993.
For the past 22 years, Katherine has been coaching: from coaching softball at her old high school, to coaching middle school volleyball, to elementary school basketball, to softball, and even to gymnastics, which, she notes, was “quite a stretch.”
She has also been a teacher for the last 19 years, teaching physical education, health, and art, as well as tutoring and running afterschool basketball leagues. In 2007, she began teaching at the Multi County Juvenile Attention Center in Canton, Ohio, where she still works today.
In February of 2015, Katherine was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. She has continued to work at the Attention Center while undergoing treatment, thanks to the support of her husband, family, friends, colleagues, and students. She looks forward to continuing to contribute to the lives of her students, whether on the field or in the classroom.
Katherine has been married to Milligan alumnus Glen Catlett for twenty-four years, and they have two children. Their son, Walker, has a degree in civil engineering and is serving as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Their daughter, Taylor, is a senior at Canton South High School, where she maintains an excellent GPA and is involved in many sports and extracurricular activities.
