2000 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE | JOE MCCLAIN
Our next inductee is Joe McClain of Johnson City and a Milligan graduate of 1978. Joe earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a minor in biology and chemistry.
He was a standout on the baseball diamond and lettered all fours years of his college career. In 1977, Joe led the team in strikeouts, innings pitched and wins and was subsequently drafted in the spring of 1978 by the Chicago Cubs. Joe remained in the Cubs organization for four years and retired from professional baseball in 1981. Joe's former coach, Harold Stout, said that he "was the best right-handed pitcher that I have ever seen in college, especially at Milligan."
The next year, in 1982, Joe married his high school sweetheart, Teresa and they have now been married for 18 wonderful years. They have two children, Traci, a freshman at Science Hill and Lucas, who is in the 5th grade at Lake Ridge Elementary.
Joe and his family have lived most of their lives in the Johnson City area as he has worked in local industry as a plant manager. He has 19 years experience as a plant and operations manager with various corporations including the V. Mueller Division in St. Louis, Mo. and at Baxter Healthcare's Surgical Division where he was recognized for outstanding performance and proven leadership. Joe is currently employed by Siemens Electronics Manufacturing as the Plant Operations Manager and supervises close to 500 employees.
Joe is also involved with the Science Hill marching band as a sponsor and has coached little league baseball for five years. He and his family are also active members of Heritage Baptist Church.
