1999 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE | DONALD THRELKELD
It is an honor to have Mr. Donald Threlkeld as an inductee of the 1999 Milligan College Athletics Hall of Fame.
Mr. Threlkeld is a member of the class of 1973. Mr. Threlkeld is one of the finest athletes to ever set foot on the hardwood at Milligan. His basketball career at Milligan is nothing short of remarkable.
During his four year career at Milligan, Don started every game at point guard, a total of 118 games. He is sixth all-time in scoring with a scoring average of 18.5 PPG. He ranks fourth all-time in points scored, scoring an amazing 2,179 points during his career as a Buffalo. In addition to having been a prolific scorer throughout his career, he amazingly set the standard as a passer as well. He set the single season assist record with 379 assists. This was an average of 11.5 assists per game, which was tops in the nation that year. He remains the record holder in assists with a total of 1,090 assists over the span of his career.
After leaving Milligan, Don married his wife, Noreen, in 1973. He began teaching at Unaka High School in Elizabethton; where he coached basketball and baseball. He remained there for three years, and in 1976 he moved to Indiana where he accepted a sales position with Brennan & Howard, Inc. In 1987, Don and his family moved to Illinois where he began working with FedEx in Chicago. Don and Noreen have three children, Ashley, Kelli and Darrin.
In corresponding with Dan's former basketball coach at Milligan, he comments, "Don was one of the best players I have ever coached, and also one of the finest people I have ever known. To have been the person to coach Don Threlkeld during his college career was definitely a blessing from God."
With that said, I simply say to you, Mr. Threlkeld, congratulations and welcome to the Milligan College Athletics Hall of Fame.
