Maggie Blazo and Alayna Perryman named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Women’s At-Large First Team
MILLIGAN UNIVERSITY, Tenn. (July 8, 2021) – Milligan standouts Maggie Blazo (women’s swimming) and Alayna Perryman (women’s golf) were named to the 2020-21 Academic All-District® At-Large First Team for NAIA District 2 by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSDIA).
MILLIGAN UNIVERSITY, Tenn. (July 8, 2021) – Milligan standouts Maggie Blazo (women's swimming) and Alayna Perryman (women's golf) were named to the 2020-21 Academic All-District® At-Large First Team for NAIA District 2 by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSDIA).
Blazo concluded her undergraduate career as the most decorated women's swimmer since Milligan restarted its swimming programs in 2007. Blazo graduated in May with a 3.90 GPA while majoring in Business Administration and Communications.
She is an 11-time NAIA and CSCAA All-American and owns five individual school records and swam on five record-setting relays. She was the Appalachian Athletic Conference's Co-Swimmer of the Year in 2020 and swept conference Swimmer of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards in 2018.
Perryman adds Academic All-District® status to WGCA All-American Scholar, WGCA All-American and NAIA All-American honors. The rising senior is an engineering major and carries a 3.71 GPA.
Perryman captured AAC Player of the Year honors and led the Buffs to first place finishes in the AAC fall and spring championship events. The Buffs won the AAC's automatic qualifier and finished 10th at the 2020-21 NAIA Women's Golf National Championship, the highest finish in program history. Perryman finished 16th at the NAIA National Championship and concluded the year No. 25 in the final Golfstat individual player ranking.
Academic All-District honorees are selected by Sports Information Directors within the institutions' district. NAIA District 2 includes schools from Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. To be nominated for the Academic All-America® program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, hold a 3.30 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
The Women's At-Large team features athletes from the following sports: beach volleyball, bowling, competitive cheer, competitive dance, golf, lacrosse, swimming, tennis, men's volleyball and wrestling.
Blazo and Perryman move on to the national ballot, and the NAIA Women's At-Large Academic All-America® teams are set to be announced on August 3.
