Milligan defeats Allen in three
Milligan College came out hot Friday night at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse, taking down Appalachian Athletic Conference member Allen University in three straight sets (25-13, 25-21, 25-17). This victory improved Milligan’s record to 7-4 (2-1 AAC).
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 13, 2019) – Milligan College came out hot Friday night at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse, taking down Appalachian Athletic Conference member Allen University in three straight sets (25-13, 25-21, 25-17). This victory improved Milligan's record to 7-4 (2-1 AAC).
Milligan went on a 19-8 run in the first set to solidify their lead over the Yellow Jackets. Julie Dockery and Alyssa Gibson had four kills apiece in set one to help the team have a hitting percentage in the first set of .357.
The second set was Milligan and Allen's closest set of the night. Milligan jumped out early getting a 4-0 lead before Allen caught back up to make the score 4-5. The second set stayed back and forth until an Elise Gregory kill when the score was 21-19 gave the Buffs the edge they needed to officially take the lead and defeat the Yellow Jackets 25-21.
The third set was all Milligan as they took the lead from the beginning and never gave it up. The largest lead of the set was Milligan by 11. Carley Gregory and Dockery had five kills during the set, contributing to 10 of the Buffs 16 kills in the third set.
Overall, Milligan out-killed Allen 45-27. The Buffs ended the night with a hitting percentage of .353 with Allen having a .091. Kellee Geren had 29 assists, and Layla Grant had 16 defensive digs. Dockery led the team in kills with 11 on the night, and E. Gregory followed behind her with nine.
Up next, the Buffs play at home Saturday, Sept. 14, against the Koalas of Columbia College at 11 a.m.
