Thacker, DeWolf continue AAC weekly award dominance
Milligan University’s Tim Thacker and Avery DeWolf, the Appalachian Athletic Conference indoor track & field athletes of the year, have been named AAC athletes of the week, announced the league office Monday for the week ending Feb. 21.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Feb. 22, 2021) – Milligan University's Tim Thacker and Avery DeWolf, the Appalachian Athletic Conference indoor track & field athletes of the year, have been named AAC athletes of the week, announced the league office Monday for the week ending Feb. 21.
This marks Thacker's eighth time winning the AAC weekly award in his career while DeWolf won for the sixth time. This season, Thacker is a four-time winner, including three in track & field. DeWolf is a five-time winner this season, also with three in track & field.
Thacker and DeWolf, both four-time AAC champions last week, led their respective No. 25 men and No. 13 women to AAC runner-up finishes at last week's league championships.
Thacker won all four events he ran and broke three AAC Championship records, winning him co-athlete of the year. He was already ranked No. 1 nationally in the 1k and No. 2 in the mile, and last week ran the No. 11 times in the 800 and Distance Medley Relay.
Similarly, DeWolf won all four events she competed in, including breaking the AAC Championship record in the distance medley relay. Already ranked No. 5 nationally in the 3k and No. 22 in the 1k, DeWolf ran the No. 7 mile time and her group ran the No. 3 DMR time.
Thacker, DeWolf and the Buffs next turn their attention to the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships, set for Wednesday-Saturday, March 3-6, in Yankton, South Dakota.
