Buffs tally 27 all-conference swimmers

The Milligan University swimming team brought home plenty of hardware from last week’s Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships. Champions on the No. 7 men’s side and runners-up on the No. 9 women’s side, Milligan placed 19 swimmers on the All-Conference first team and eight swimmers on the All-Conference second team.

Men’s swimming takes AAC crown, women narrow second

Head Coach Spencer Scarth won Appalachian Athletic Conference men’s coach of the year, freshman Stephen Gilbert won AAC men’s swimmer of the year, and the No. 7 Milligan University men’s swimming team won the AAC Championship Saturday at the Kingsport Aquatic Center. The No. 9 Milligan women landed runner-up to No. 4 Asbury by 12 points.

Four more individual champions, four more relay champions and a trio of championship records helped the Milligan University No. 7 men and No. 9 women jump No. 4 Asbury and take the lead after day two of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships Friday at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.

Three relay champions, two individual champions and two championship records led the Milligan University No. 7 men and No. 9 women to runner-up spots after the first day of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships Thursday at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.

MacPherson, Gilbert continue AAC weekly award dominance

Freshmen Gabby MacPherson and Stephen Gilbert once again swept Appalachian Athletic Conference swimmer of the week after leading their respective Milligan University teams to victories over King last Friday night. The AAC announced the award Monday afternoon for the week ending Jan. 31.

Swimming tops King for second time this season

After an extended break during the changing of semesters, the Milligan University swimming team dove back into action Friday evening at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse for a head-to-head meet against King. Milligan defeated the Tornado in dominating fashion on both sides, 165-96 on the men’s and 189-61 on the women’s.

Buffs dive into break in national polls

A couple of meet wins and a handful of nationally ranked Buffaloes have the Milligan University men’s and women’s swimming teams earning national attention according to the latest NAIA top-10 polls. The Buffaloes closed the fall semester by defeating the No. 10 team to jump to No. 7 in the latest men’s poll. Milligan’s women entered the receiving votes category this week after a similarly successful fall semester.

Cates, Hawkins win AAC swimmer of the week

Tyler Cates and Ben Hawkins helped Milligan University continue its ownership this season of Appalachian Athletic Conference swimmer of the week. Cates won the women’s award while Hawkins won the men’s award as Milligan swept the honors for the third time in three weeks.

Tyler Cates earned the nation’s first individual “A” cut this season, while the Milligan University swim teams took down Union in crushing fashion in a dual meet Saturday afternoon.

Gilbert, Williams sweep AAC swim weekly awards

For the second time this season, the Milligan University swim program swept the Appalachian Athletic Conference swimmer of the week awards, with freshmen Stephen Gilbert and Kaylee Williams earning honors. The AAC made the announcement Monday for the week ending Nov. 8.

Buff trio breaks five records

Kaylee Williams, Gabby MacPherson and Stephen Gilbert accounted for five broken records as the Milligan University swimming team competed Saturday at Carson-Newman. Williams broke Milligan’s 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke records, MacPherson rebroke the 200 butterfly, and Stephen Gilbert reset the 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley records, winning both races as well.

Freshmen Gabby MacPherson and Stephen Gilbert debuted for the Milligan University swimming program with a couple of stellar performances that garnered them Appalachian Athletic Conference swimmer of the week. The AAC office announced the award winners Monday for the week ending Oct. 4.
