Milligan finishes third in AAC Championships
Maggie Halloran was named co-female swimmer of the meet and the Milligan College swim team finished in third place in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships in Kingsport, Tenn. The Buffs finished with a combined team score of 945.5 points with the women accounting for 447.5 and the men accounting for 498 of the points. The women kept their third place standing through all three days but the men moved to third place on the men’s side by beating WVU-Tech by eight points in the final day of competition.
KINGSPORT, Tenn. (Feb. 15, 2020) – Maggie Halloran was named co-female swimmer of the meet and the Milligan College swim team finished in third place in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday in Kingsport, Tenn. The Buffs finished with a combined team score of 945.5 points with the women accounting for 447.5 and the men accounting for 498 of the points. The women kept their third place standing through all three days but the men moved to third place on the men's side by beating WVU-Tech by eight points in the final day of competition.
Success of the day
Halloran kicked the day off by winning the women's 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:02.97 and earning her sixth national standard of the meet. Halloran holds the AAC meet record for the 1650 freestyle which she set back in 2018 with a time of 17:46.92. This was Halloran's third win at the championships.
On the men's side of the 1650 freestyle, freshman Noah Bengtson earned a national standard with a time of 17:57.30.
Kaylee Propst was able to earn a national standard in the women's 200 backstroke with a time of 2:16.99. For the men, Jarod Blazo earned a national A standard with a fourth place finish and a time of 1:58.41.
In the 100 freestyle, Anna Backus for the women finished in fourth and earned a national standard with the time of 57.50. Matthew McFalls earned a national A standard on the men's side with a time of 48.43.
In the 200 breaststroke, Lindsey Grow received a national standard with a time of 2:36.05 and Anna Hathcock received a national A standard in the women's 200 butterfly with a time of 2:19.77.
All of the 400 freestyle relay teams received national A standards which consisted of two women's teams and one men's team. The first women's team finished in third place with a time of 3:49.08 and was made up of Rachel Scheffer, Backus, Hathcock and Halloran. The second women's team finished with a time of 4:01.41 and was made up of Grow, Jordan Clark, Marlie Henegar and Isabel Siegel. For the men, the team of Logan Garzonio, Blazo, McFalls and Ben Hawkins finished with a time of 3:16.20 in fifth place.
