Women’s Soccer downs Union 8-1 in regular season home finale
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (October 25, 2023) – The Milligan University women’s soccer team got back in the win column with a 8-1 victory over Union in the Buffs regular season home finale at Anglin Field on Wednesday evening.

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (October 25, 2023) – The Milligan University women's soccer team got back in the win column with a 8-1 victory over Union in the Buffs regular season home finale at Anglin Field on Wednesday evening.
The Buffs rise to 8-8-1 on the season and 7-6 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. Union falls to 3-13, 3-10 AAC.
Angeleena Waaland got the scoring started in the game's third minute. After a Milligan giveaway, Waaland took the ball off the Bulldog defender and arced a long-range shot over the Union keeper for her eighth goal of the season.
Waaland put the Buffs ahead 2-0 in the ninth minute with Waaland cashing in again. Sarah Buckner put a cross into the penalty area from the left side and Natalie Roper touched the ball to Waaland, who fired in her second goal of the day.
Roper scored in the 12th minute on a set piece. Lauren Hawkley served a ball into the box, Waaland tapped it to Roper, who sent home her 13th tally of the year to put Milligan ahead 3-0.
The Buffs carried their 3-0 edge into halftime, outshooting the Bulldogs 13-2 over the first 45 minutes.
The Bulldogs scored in the opening 20 seconds of the second half with a long-range shot ricocheted off the crossbar and into the goal to bring the score to 3-1.
Roper created some space above the18-yard box and ripped a shot inside the left post for her second goal of the night.
Taylor Dawson headed in a goal in the 63rd minute off a cross by Makenna Wilkins. Kori Barnhill fed Hawkley in the 81st to push Milligan's lead to 6-1. Rebekah Sanchez set up Barnhill in the 85th and Barnhill finished the scoring with a tally in the 88th.
The Buffs outshot Union 25-4 on the evening.
The Buffs conclude the regular season Saturday night at Pikeville.
