GAINESVILLE, Ga. (September 8, 2022) – The Milligan University women's soccer fell 3-1 at Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) foe Brenau in Georgia on Wednesday evening.
The Buffs fall to 3-5-1 on the season and 2-4 in AAC play. Brenau moves to 7-2, 5-1 AAC.
Brenau scored the lone goal in the 24th minute of a quiet first half. The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the second half after scoring in the 54th minutes.
After Brenau's second tally, the Buffs earned a pair of corner kicks and recorded a shot in the following 10 minutes.
With just over 20 minutes remaining in regulation, Kelsey Miller sliced the deficit in half with her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Less than five minutes after Milligan's goal, Taylor Dawson aimed two shots, one that flew high and another that was saved by the Tigers' goalkeeper.
Brenau attempted the next four shots and put the game out of reach with a goal in the 86th minute to give the hosts a late 3-1 lead.
Despite the two-goal margin, the team stats were virtually even. Brenau had an 11-10 edge in shots, the Buffs had a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal and both teams had four corner kicks.
Dawson and Ella Sawa combined for eight shots, five of which were on frame.
The Buffs return to Georgia next Wednesday when they travel to No. 21 Truett McConnell.
