Women’s Soccer rallies late but falls to Montreat 2-1

The Buffs fall to 2-4-1 on the year and 1-3 in Appalachian Athletic Conference action. Montreat rises to 4-2, 4-1 AAC.
The Buffs had a near miss in the game's first five minutes as Ella Sawa had a right-angled close range shot trickle to the right of the goal frame following a Milligan corner kick.
Hannah Chatterton got her head on another Milligan corner in the 15th minute, but her attempt flew high.
Montreat scored in the 28th minute with a well-placed right-angled shot that from just inside the penalty area under the crossbar.
The Cavalier struck again in the 34th minute after taking the ball away from the Buff back line and finding an open attacking player on the left side, who put away Montreat's second tally.
The Buffs survived three Montreat corners and four shots in the first six minutes of the second half.
Maraiah Shull placed a shot on frame in the 60th minute and Kelsey Miller fired a shot on goal in the 66th, but both attempts were turned away by Montreat's goalkeeper.
In the game's final minutes, Ella Sawa drew a foul in the penalty area, which resulted in a penalty kick goal by Autumn Daniels in the 87th minute.
Despite a mad scramble at the end of regulation, Milligan was unable to attempt a game-tying shot as the visitors held on for a 2-1 victory.
Montreat owned a 18-12 advantage in shots (7-2 SOG) and both teams attempted four corner kicks.
Milligan keeper Lauren Davies made five saves in the contest. Shull and Miller attempted three shots each.
The Buffs continue their AAC slate at Breanu on Wednesday evening.
