MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (July 26, 2019) – After earning a postseason national recognition of No. 22 for its athletic success, the Milligan College women's basketball team earned a postseason national recognition of No. 21 for its academic success, announced the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) following the 2018-19 academic year.
The Buffaloes posted a 3.53 grade-point average, tops among all Milligan teams this year and enough to finish 0.02 points away from the top 20 nationally.
"We're very pleased for what this team was able to accomplish on the court and in the classroom," Head Coach Rich Aubrey said. "It's exciting to think what these student-athletes will accomplish as servant-leaders in the various professions to which they're headed. We are sending graduates into medicine, engineering, education, accounting and business. We know they're been prepared to serve well in these areas."
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2018-19 season is the 24th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
Helping the team earn this prestigious honor was a handful of Buffaloes who won Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete, an individual award recognizing academic success. In fact, with eight on the list, the women's basketball team led Milligan in this category as well. Seniors Cassidy Anderson, Kasey Gordon, Andi Lamb, Mackenzie Raizor, Savannah Raizor and Sarah Robinson, along with juniors Hannah Crowder and Hannah Rodgers, were the honorees.
