Mardis, Baker named AAC Runner of the Week
Gabrielle Mardis and Nathan Baker, finishing fourth and ninth respectively in their races, led their team to an Appalachian Athletic Conference level win and runner-up finish in their meet heavy with NCAA Divisions I and II teams last week. Each running one of the fastest race times in Milligan history, Mardis and Baker were both recognized as AAC runner of the week for their stellar performance this past Friday at the Queen City Invitational.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept 30, 2019) – Gabrielle Mardis and Nathan Baker, finishing fourth and ninth respectively in their races, led their team to an Appalachian Athletic Conference level win and runner-up finish in their meet heavy with NCAA Divisions I and II teams last week. Each running one of the fastest race times in Milligan history, Mardis and Baker were both recognized as AAC runner of the week for their stellar performance this past Friday at the Queen City Invitational.
Placing second out of 39 teams, the Milligan women came flying in minutes before the men. Guiding Milligan's women in the 5k, Mardis finished with a time of 18:16, and was followed by three Buffs that all ran individually to the top 25 of the race.
Finishing with a personal best 25:30 in the 8k, Baker led the men's team to an outstanding runner-up finish in the field of 42 men's teams.
Milligan's next race will be on the Tweetsie Trail on Oct. 25, as they are looking ahead and preparing for the end-of-season championships in November.
