Tennis teams end season in first round of AAC tourney
Milligan College's tennis teams suffered defeat in the opening round of the AAC tournament Thursday at the Champions Club. Milligan lost to No. 22 SCAD Atlanta, 5-0, on the women's side. Milligan lost to No. 2 Reinhardt University, 5-0, on the men's side.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (April 18, 2019) – Milligan College's tennis teams suffered defeat in the opening round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament Thursday at the Champions Club. Milligan lost to No. 22 SCAD Atlanta, 5-0, on the women's side. Milligan lost to No. 2 Reinhardt University, 5-0, on the men's side.
Milligan finished the season with a record of 11-10 (3-5 AAC) on the women's side. The Buffs were led by Marlaina Peterson who went 16-4 in singles action as one of four with nine or more wins on the season. Karson Light (12), Minda Martin (10) and McKenzie Grady (nine) followed in the column of singles victories, and Chessa Jones, Milligan's AAC Champions of Character team honoree, finished with seven wins.
In doubles, Peterson and Martin posted the most success, winning eight matches as a pair. Individually, four Buffs registered double figures in doubles wins, led by Light who went 11-9.
Taylor Graalman led Milligan on the men's side with a record of 12-8 in singles as the Buffs were 7-14 on the season. Thomas Hurt followed next with nine wins, and Mason Grear and Griffin Leonard won five singles matches.
Graalman and Grear together went 10-9 in doubles to lead the team, and the duo also posted the team most number in doubles wins individually, both with 11. Joseph Lyttle earned a spot on the AAC Champions of Character team to highlight Milligan's postseason honors.
