Grady clinches Buffs' win on senior day
Freshman McKenzie Grady helped send the Milligan College women's tennis seniors off with a win Friday at Mathes Tennis Center, providing the clinching point in a 5-4 victory over AAC foe Point University. Milligan's men fell to the No. 13-ranked Point men, 9-0.
Grady won in straight sets, but it was close at the finish as she took the second set in a tiebreak. Milligan (11-8) led 4-3 at the time, following two wins at doubles and wins from Minda Martin and Marlaina Peterson at Nos. 2 and 6 singles, respectively. Martin won her 10th match of the season in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, while Peterson won her team-leading 15th match decisively, 6-0, 6-3. Grady's win was her ninth of the year, 6-0, 7-6.
Chessa Jones/Karson Light and Martin/Peterson were the doubles winners on the women's side, winning 8-6 and 8-4 at Nos. 2 and 3. For Martin and Peterson, it marked their eighth win of the season as a pair, which leads the team.
On the men's side, Point started the day with a definitive sweep through doubles before matching that effort in singles.
Up next, Milligan finishes the regular season next Thursday with a rescheduled match against AAC foe Reinhardt University. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at Mathes Tennis Center. The AAC tournament will follow April 18-20 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
