Buffs secure five titles on first day of AAC meet
Three relay champions, two individual champions and two championship records led the Milligan University No. 7 men and No. 9 women to runner-up spots after the first day of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships Thursday at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.
KINGSPORT, Tenn. (Feb. 11, 2021) – Three relay champions, two individual champions and two championship records led the Milligan University No. 7 men and No. 9 women to runner-up spots after the first day of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships Thursday at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.
Milligan currently sits in second on both the men's and women's sides, as well as in the combined scoring, ranking behind the No. 4 Asbury men and women in each category. Milligan's men are only off Asbury by eight and a half points.
Stephen Gilbert and Ben Hawkins were apart of three titles for the Buffs. Gilbert won the 200 individual medley in 1:49.63 to smash the AAC record by almost five seconds. Hawkins swam the top 500 freestyle, winning in 4:42.30, and the two also took the AAC crown in the 200 medley relay and 800 free relay alongside Aubin Dulin and Logan Garzonio.
Hannah Wheatley, Tyler Cates, Maggie Blazo and Gabby MacPherson highlighted the women's side by winning the 800 free relay in an AAC record 7:50.43.
Day two of the AAC Swimming & Diving Championships is set for Friday. The event will conclude Saturday.
