Men’s basketball closes season with loss in AAC tourney

A near triple-double from all-freshman point guard Finn McClure plus a go-ahead three from Jackson Gabriel with four and a half minutes left was not enough as the Milligan University men’s basketball team fell to Tennessee Wesleyan, 88-81, in the quarterfinals of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament Thursday afternoon at MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center.

Tripp first team, three other Buffs recognized

Milligan University senior David Tripp has been recognized on the Appalachian Athletic Conference All-Conference first team, sophomore Levontae Knox has been recognized on the all-defense team, and freshmen Finn McClure and Jeffrey Selden have been recognized on the all-freshman team. The AAC office made the postseason men’s basketball awards announcement Wednesday night.

Thomas’ late basket, FT advance Buffs in AAC tourney

Josh Thomas scored a basket with 46 seconds to go before making a free throw to give the Milligan University men’s basketball team the final lead with under five seconds left in helping the Buffaloes survive St. Andrews 83-81 in the opening round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament Saturday in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

The Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament is set to begin Saturday with the Milligan University men’s basketball team hosting St. Andrews and Milligan’s women heading to Columbia International. Both games are set to tip off at 2 p.m.

Levontae Knox scored a tough basket with under one second to go in regulation to force overtime before Josh Thomas scored a tough basket late in overtime to give the Buffaloes the final lead, all in leading the Milligan University men’s basketball team to a 98-91 victory over Montreat Wednesday night at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

Tripp leads Buffs over Bluefield

After outscoring Bluefield by 20 points in the second half, the Milligan University men’s basketball team came away with a 78-69 road win Monday night in a rescheduled Appalachian Athletic Conference contest. David Tripp led the Buffs with 26 points and a career high 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.

Hot start not enough in road loss

The Milligan University men’s basketball team started the game on a 13-2 run but ultimately fell to Columbia International 88-68 Saturday in an Appalachian Athletic Conference road game. Matt Cole led the Buffs with 15 points while adding five rebounds.

Men’s basketball falls at Truett McConnell

Two days after defeating Truett McConnell at home, the Milligan University men’s basketball team was defeated by Truett McConnell on the road, 77-67, Thursday night in Appalachian Athletic Conference action. Three Buffs registered double figures for scoring in the loss, led by Josh Thomas with 16.

Tyler Faulkenberry scored the go-ahead basket with 30 seconds left before helping the Milligan University men’s basketball team seal the game at the free-throw line, as the Buffaloes defeated visiting Truett McConnell 67-63 Tuesday night inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

After defeating Point by two in overtime in the teams’ Appalachian Athletic Conference opener last November, the Milligan University men’s basketball team suffered the same fate Saturday, falling in overtime to the No. 25 Skyhawks 84-82.

Matt Cole tallied 24 points and 11 rebounds, and the Milligan University men’s basketball team weathered a late storm to defeat Reinhardt 80-73 Saturday in a big Appalachian Athletic Conference road win. Cole’s double-double was the first of his career and featured a career high in scoring.
