Rich Aubrey took over the women's program in 1993, bringing with him a tradition of success and continued improvement. His coaching career began at Washington College Academy in Limestone, Tennessee, and continued at several other stops, including Sullivan South High School in Kingsport, Tennessee, before returning to his alma mater in 1993.
 
Since Aubrey became head coach at Milligan, the program's accomplishments include nine regular season conference championships (1996-97; 1997-98; 1998-99; 1999-00; 2008-09; 2009-10; 2012-13; 2015-16; 2016-17) and three conference tournament titles (1997, 1998, 1999). The Buffs made four consecutive trips to the NAIA Division II national tournament from 1997 to 2000, again in 2013, and back-to-back trips in 2016 and 2017. They are also coming off a trip to the national tournament in 2019.
 
The 1996-97 and the 1998-99 teams each finished with 30+ wins while going 21-0 against conference opponents. Aubrey produced two All-American honorees during that span.
 
Aubrey has been named conference Coach of the Year 10 times (1996-97; 1997-98; 1998-99; 1999-00; 2005-06; 2007-08; 2008-09; 2009-10; 2012-13; 2015-16), was recognized with the Champion of Character award for NAIA Regions XII and XIII following the 2005-06 season, and was the winner of the NAIA national Coach of Character honor in 2013. 
 
Aubrey's teams have won six Champions of Character awards (2005-06; 2006-07; 2007-08; 2008-09; 2010-11; 2011-12). 
 
On Feb. 5, 2014, Milligan defeated Truett-McConnell College, 61-44, marking Aubrey's 400th career win. He became only the 10th coach in the history of NAIA Division II to reach the milestone. On Jan. 31, 2019, Milligan defeated Montreat College, 60-59, marking his 500th career win. Currently, Aubrey is the fifth winningest active coach in the NAIA.
 
Aubrey, a tennis player, coached the women's tennis team for one season (1993-94) and later guided the men's team to four conference champions of character awards (2001-02; 2002-03; 2003-04; 2005-06), coaching the men from 2001 to 2006. 
 
Aubrey earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1985 and Master of Education in 1993 from Milligan, and previously served as the director and associate professor of teacher education for the college. He also completed his Ed.D. in educational leadership in 1998 from East Tennessee State University.
 
Aubrey and his wife, Sheri, live in Milligan College, Tennessee, and are active at Crossroads Christian Church. They have two daughters, Erin and Amy.
