1999 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE | WILLIAM JOHNSON STANFIELD
Milligan College is honored to induct Mr. William Johnson Stanfield tonight into the Athletics Hall of Fame. Mr. Stanfield attended Milligan from 1945-1949, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and biology.
While at Milligan, Mr. Stanfield played football on a scholarship for one year and worked with the football team in various other roles including team manager. During his tenure with the Buffs, Mr. Stanfield also played on the tennis team for two years.
Mr. Stanfield began his career as a teacher and coach. From 1951-1953 he served in the U.S. Army. In 1954, Mr. Stanfield earned a master's degree in biology and administration from George Peabody College, and later earned his Ed.S. degree from George Peabody College for Teachers in 1966.
Over the years Mr. Stanfield has dedicated his life to teaching, coaching, and administration in education to help guide young people. The good seed that he has sewn is evident as one looks at his life.
Today, Mr. Stanfield is retired and spends time traveling with his wife Marie. He still takes time to do volunteer work at the hospital, and he actively participates in church-related activities. Mr. and Mrs. Stanfield have five children and five grandchildren.
Mr. Stanfield has been honored many times over and inducted into various "halls of fame". Tonight it is my pleasure to honor Mr. Stanfield by inducting him into the Milligan College Athletics Hall of Fame.
Congratulations Mr. Stanfield!
