2013 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE | DUSTIN BARRETT
Dustin Barrett, a native of Tazewell, Virginia, graduated from Milligan in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in human performance and exercise science. In 2007, he graduated from East Tennessee State University with a doctorate in physical therapy.
Dustin, who was a standout baseball player in high school, earning first team All-District, All-Region and All-State Pitcher, was also one of two pitchers to be named to the group AA first team State of Virginia his senior year. Dustin was a member of Milligan’s baseball team, where he was a four-year starter as a pitcher from 1999 to 2003.
He was named to the 2000 Appalachian Athletic Conference All-Conference team his freshman year at Milligan. In 2001, as a sophomore, he was named as an AAC All-Conference first team member and awarded the AAC conference Pitcher of the Year. Also in 2001, he was placed on the NAIA Region XII first team as a pitcher and named to the NAIA All-American team as an honorable mention. During the middle of the 2002 baseball season, Dustin injured his shoulder, which required surgery that summer. He returned for his senior year of Milligan baseball and completed a very successful four-year college baseball career. At the time of his graduation, Dustin was second in Milligan baseball history with total career wins (just two wins shy of the all-time win record), he was first with the most wins in a season (10 in 2001), and he was the first in career total innings pitched. Dustin has continued to follow Milligan baseball and occasionally assisted with the baseball program.
Dustin married Lauren Alexander in 2009 and they welcomed their daughter, Caroline Alexander Barrett, into this world in May 2012. Dustin currently works for Physical Therapy Services as a pediatric, school, and adult physical therapist in Johnson City and Elizabethton. He attends Tazewell Family Worship Center in Tazewell, Virginia. His Milligan education taught him to strive to be his best, excel in whatever he is doing, and to give complete credit to Christ for all he has and will continue to achieve.
Please join us in congratulating Dustin on his induction into the Athletics Hall of Fame.
