2005 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE | DONALD ONYANGO
Donald Onyango graduated from Milligan College in 2000 with a B.S. in mathematics. In 2002, he completed an M.S. in computer science at Duke University.
The son of Kenyan diplomats, Donald grew up in Belgium, Canada, Congo and Kenya. In 1995, he came to the United States to attend Warren Wilson College in Asheville, North Carolina, where he played soccer and intended to pursue a degree in engineering. Two years later, though, he decided to transfer to Milligan.
Under the coaching of John Garvilla and Marty Shirley, Donald says he grew both as a person and as a soccer player. He ranks second on the Buffaloes' all-time list for points in a career with 73, and goals in a career with 32. Donald also ranks second all-time for points in a season with 41 and goals in a season with 18. Donald was a two-time recipient of the Golden Boot Award, which is given to the player who scores the most goals in a season.
Donald was selected to the NAIA's National All-American and Academic All-American teams in 1999, a year in which he also received All-Region honors. Donald was awarded with All-Conference honors in both the '98 and '99 seasons.
Currently, Donald works as a software engineer for Medtronic Inc., in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He attends Speak the Word International Church, enjoys volunteering, coaching youth soccer, playing recreational soccer, biking and enjoying the outdoors when it’s warm enough to do so.
It is with pleasure that we present Donald Onyango as the first soccer player to be inducted into the Milligan College Athletics Hall of Fame.
