Milligan Athletics COVID-19 Updates & Policies
The health and safety of Milligan student-athletes, fans, and staff are our top priority in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. To that end, we are implementing several new initiatives for athletic events this academic year (2020-2021). These initiatives are guided by the recommendations of public health authorities, the state of Tennessee, and appropriate university and government agencies including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Exposure to COVID-19 is an inherent risk in any public location where people are present; we cannot guarantee you will not be exposed during your visit.
Important Items to Note
- All Milligan faculty, staff, and students signed the Buffalo Pledge, designed to "Protect Myself, Protect Others, Protect Buff Nation."
- Athletes, coaches, and staff are screened daily with a questionnaire and temperature check.
- Athletes, coaches, and staff are required to practice social distancing.
- Athletes, coaches, and staff are required to wear face coverings over their nose and mouth unless hydrating or actively performing physical actions such as competing or lifting weights.
- New signage around Steve Lacy Fieldhouse and other athletics facilities directs foot traffic to help implement social distancing.
- Weight room equipment and facilities are sanitized between each session and thoroughly at the end of each day.
- High touch-point areas such as railings and door handles are cleaned more frequently.
- Locker rooms are closed until further notice.
Fan Expectations
- Prior to arriving on campus, we encourage all fans to check their temperature and do a health self-screening. Fans who have a temperature above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or exhibit symptoms of COVID-19 are asked to stay home. For a full list of symptoms, please visit the CDC page.
- Face coverings over the nose and mouth, along with social distancing, are required for all guests at all times on Milligan’s campus. This includes when they enter, exit and move around athletics facilities, as well as when attending matches/games to watch teams compete.
- Indoor events will be limited to members of each team along with essential personnel only. Therefore, no spectators will be permitted to attend indoor sports. Fans will instead have the alternative to watch indoor matches/games online through our Stretch Internet Portal.
- This currently applies to all indoor sports, including women's volleyball, men's and women’s basketball, and men's and women's swimming.
- Water fountains will be turned off and concession stands will be closed.
Milligan will continue to evaluate these guidelines, which are subject to change pending further recommendations from university, local, state, and federal authorities.
