KANSAS CITY, Mo. (October 25, 2023) – Milligan University graduate student Caitlin Dominy was selected as the NAIA Women's Cross Country National Runner of the Week based on her performance at the NAIA Appalachian Challenge last week.
Dominy won the Appalachian Challenge at Sequoyah Park in Knoxville with a personal-best 5k time of 17:29. She topped a 169-woman field to record her first-ever collegiate cross country victory. Dominy's effort was the fifth-fastest Milligan cross country 5k in program history.
The Buffs also took home the team title at the NAIA Appalachian Challenge with a team score of 23. Milligan notched head-to-head victories over a pair of ranked teams in No. 12 Montreat and No. 23 SCAD Savannah.
Dominy is a two-time NAIA National Runner of the Week, winning the award in the opening week of the 2022 season. Milligan has captured the national weekly honor three times this season, with sophomore Ellen-Mary Kearney earning the award twice this fall. Dominy and Kearney are the only student-athletes in team history to win national cross country weekly honors multiple times.
The No. 2 Buffs look to punch their ticket to the NAIA National Championships at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships next week.
