94 Buffs recognized as 2019-20 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced 2019-20 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete awards on Tuesday, naming 94 members of Milligan University athletics teams to the list. Milligan women’s soccer led the way with 12 Buffs making the list, while men’s track & field followed as a close runner-up with 10.

18 Milligan teams earn NAIA Scholar Team Award
Eighteen Milligan University athletics teams impressively earned distinction as NAIA Scholar Teams for the 2019-2020 academic year, announced the NAIA on Tuesday as part of National Awards Day. These 18 teams were among over 2,000 total teams across the NAIA recognized with this award.

Volleyball acknowledged in record-breaking academic honor
The United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced that Milligan University women’s volleyball has earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2019-2020 season. Milligan is one of a record-breaking 1,313 schools to achieve the award this year, topping last year’s record by almost 200 teams.

Geren honored as Milligan Female Athlete of the Year
Senior Kellee Geren of the Milligan College volleyball team was named the Milligan College Female Athlete of the Year. The announcement was made Thursday afternoon during the college’s award ceremony.

From player to coach with Doneva Bays
Milligan College head volleyball coach Doneva Bays first came to Milligan as a student in 1993 as a member of both the women’s basketball and volleyball teams. She earned All-American status as a member of the volleyball team and became a member of the elite 1,000 points club on the basketball team.

Milligan College ranks No. 18 in the most recent NAIA Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup standings. This is the second of three sets of fall standings, with the final poll to be published Dec. 24.

Dockery and Geren earn All-Region honors
After a successful season of leading the Milligan College volleyball team back to the national championship opening round, Julie Dockery and Kellee Geren were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Northeast All-Region Team with Geren also being named Region Player of the Year.

Volleyball season ends in NAIA championship
The Milligan College volleyball team came out strong in the first set of the NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Championship Opening Round but were unable to pick up the match win and fell to Martin Methodist College in four sets (25-16, 19-25, 16-25, 14-25) Saturday afternoon in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

Volleyball finishes runner-up in AAC tournament
After qualifying for a spot in the NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Championship, the Milligan College volleyball team fell to No. 25 Reinhardt in the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament championship. The Buffs lost in three sets (27-25, 25-13, 25-16) to the regular season AAC champions.

The Milligan College volleyball team defeated Truett McConnell Friday evening in Kingsport to advance to the championship match of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament and qualify for the NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship for the second year in a row.

The Milligan College women’s volleyball team continued their winning streak into the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament, defeating Montreat College in three sets (25-21, 25-17, 25-16) Thursday night. With Thursday’s win the Buffs increase their win streak to 12 games.

Kellee Geren of the Milligan College volleyball team was named Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Setter of the Year, while Julie Dockery and Carley Gregory received All-Conference distinctions.

Geren and Dockery pick up AAC weekly awards
Seniors Kellee Geren and Julie Dockery were recognized for the Appalachian Athletic Conference players the week honors after an exciting week for the Milligan College volleyball team, defeating Union College to win the AAC North Division. The awards were announced Monday by the AAC office for the week ending Sunday, Nov. 10.
