Track & Field records a number of personal bests

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. (March 23) - The Milligan University track & field teams participated in the Montreat College Open this weekend, which featured a deep and competitive field as they faced quality NAIA and NCAA squads.

The Buffaloes came away with several personal bests.

On the first day, Will Stockley posted the lone first-place finish as he ran a tactical sit-and-kick race. The senior won the race in 3:56.77, over three seconds better than the rest of the field.

In the 5000, Zimri Kuhn posted a third-place showing as he crossed the line in 15:13.11. Dillon Craig and Daniel Martin each registered personal bests as they finished seventh and eighth, respectively, with times of 15:43.76 and 15:46.77.

Alex Brittain took fourth in the 3000 steeplechase (9:52.63), and Keaton Hincher battled for a seventh-place finish (10:20.66) despite falling during the race.

Corey Greeson finished eighth in the discus with a personal-best throw of 45.77 meters.

Ashlyn Haas was the top Milligan women's finish on the day as she was ninth in the 1500 with a personal-best time of 4:54.23. In all, five Milligan women notched 1500 personal bests.

On the final day, the 800 was the stronger event for the Milligan men as two finished in the top eight. Sylas Chambers crossed the line fifth (1:55.67) with Carter Windham right behind in sixth (1:56.29.

Haas led four Milligan women to personal bests in the 800 as she placed ninth with a time of 2:23.76.

Macy Hinkle finished fifth in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.42 meters.

Mary Custodio posted two top-eight finishes, taking eighth in the 400 hurdles (1:16.61) and eighth in the pole vault (2.50 meters).

Greeson also had a 10th-place showing in the men's javelin with a toss of 45.86.

Milligan is back at it on Thursday at the Raleigh Relays, which is a three-day event.
