Kearney continues dominance of national award
Milligan University’s Emily Kearney once again is the NAIA track athlete of the week after a dominating performance over the Appalachian Athletic Conference field last week at the league championships.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (April 29, 2021) – Milligan University's Emily Kearney once again is the NAIA track athlete of the week after a dominating performance over the Appalachian Athletic Conference field last week at the league championships. The NAIA national office made the announcement Thursday morning.
This is the third recognition in as many times competing that Kearney has won the NAIA national weekly award. Each time has followed AAC weekly recognition as well.
Kearney won three AAC titles on the way to earning AAC runner of the year. She won the 1,500 meters in 4:31.18 and the 5,000 meters by over one minute in 15:54.96. Kearney also was a part of the championship-winning 4x800 meter relay, which won in 9:21.42.
Kearney, a four-time national champion, ranks No. 1 nationally in the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters, and No. 2 nationally in the 1,500 meters.
The No. 8 Buffs have one more event on their radar, the Montreat College Last Chance on May 7, before heading to the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships May 26-28.
