Women’s track & field honored with All-Academic award
The team and seven members of the Milligan University women’s track & field program were recognized for achievement both on the track and in the classroom by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (July 27, 2020) – The team and seven members of the Milligan University women's track & field program were recognized for achievement both on the track and in the classroom by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
With a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.49, Milligan ranked No. 21 nationally. The Buffaloes also were well represented on the individual list, with Hannah Bell, Avery DeWolf, Amy Ferguson, Katlyn Haas, Gabrielle Mardis, Bekah Owen and Erica Stone earning individual honors.
Milligan tied for the most perfect individual cumulative GPA's with two student-athletes maintaining a 4.0. Additionally, Milligan ranked No. 1 in the NAIA for most 4.0's among both men's and women's squads.
"These young women and young men not only got it done at the highest level in the classroom, but they also accomplished big things at the highest level of our sport," Head Coach Chris Layne said. "That makes this recognition from USTFCCCA pretty special."
In order to qualify for the team award, the cumulative GPA for all student-athletes on the institution's eligibility certificate for indoor and/or outdoor track & field must be 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. To qualify for the individual award, each student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Additionally, they must have achieved an "A" or "B" standard in a championship event and must have completed at least two semesters or three quarters at the certifying institution.
