Milligan Tennis Squads Drop Matchups with Nationally Ranked Middle Georgia State

MOBILE, Ala. – The Milligan university men's and women's tennis squads did battle with nationally-ranked Middle Georgia State squads on Friday, as the Buffaloes men had a tight 4-2 loss and the MU women dropped their tilt 4-0.

On the men's side, Milligan earned two wins in the singles compeition and could have had a third to earn a tie. Michal Curlej earned a win via a retirement in the number two singles match, as he won the opening set 6-0. Marcos Moreno took his No. 6 match in two sets, winning 6-4, 7-6 to earn Milligan's second point. Gonzaga Lafarga went the distance with a three-set loss to his opponent in the number one matchup. He fell 7-6, 0-6, 6-3. Tomas Tenil fell 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 3 match, and Thiago Petry lost 6-3, 7-5 in the fourth battle.

Doubles were tight on the men's side, as Ryan Thomas and Curlej lost 6-4 in the first matchup, but Petry and Moreno teamed up to win 7-5. In a final tight contest, Lafarga and Brayden Kennedy fell in a 7-5 fashion.

All three of the Milligan womens' doubles pairings fell with one game won, apiece.

Singles saw Lee Ann Endler fall 6-2, 6-1 in the top singles match, with Sophie Dunman dropping her No. 4 match 6-1, 6-4. Then, Tiana Shelton fell 6-1, 6-1 to close out the matches that went final. Marta Miralles won a set, taking her first 6-4. Lauren Wimmer was also leading her second set 5-3.

Milligan's men will play again tomorrow morning against Southeastern University at 10 a.m. The women will not play Saturday.
