Buffs drop first match versus Mars Hill
The Milligan women's tennis team hosted its third match of the season Tuesday at Mathes Tennis Center but came away with a 5-2 loss at the hands of Mars Hill University.

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 9, 2018) – The Milligan College women's tennis team hosted its third match of the season Tuesday at Mathes Tennis Center but came away with a 5-2 loss at the hands of Mars Hill University.
Sophomore Karson Light won her team leading third match with a 1-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory at No. 4 singles, while junior Minda Martin improved to 2-1 with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. Milligan also claimed victory at No. 3 doubles as Marlaina Peterson and Rachel Blankenship defeated MHU's Victoria Franklin and Kat Horner 6-2. However, playing under newly instated guidelines, Mars Hill took wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to claim the lone doubles point.
Several other Buffs played close matches but came away empty. No. 1 singles player, Lexie Hill, fell 7-5 in her second set; No. 2 Chessa Jones bounced back from a set down to win the second set in a tiebreak only to lose the third in a super tiebreaker; and Rachel Dove, at No. 6, lost her opening set in a breaker.
Up next, Milligan hosts Maryville College Sunday, Oct. 21, at 4 p.m. back at Mathes Tennis Center. It will be the final match on the fall schedule for the Buffs.
