Halloran caps swim season with All-American honor
Junior Maggie Halloran received her sixth career All-American recognition Saturday afternoon after a sixth place finish in the women’s 200 backstroke helped conclude results for Milligan College at the 2020 NAIA Swimming & Diving National Championships.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (March 7, 2020) – Junior Maggie Halloran received her sixth career All-American recognition Saturday afternoon after a sixth place finish in the women's 200 backstroke helped conclude results for Milligan College at the 2020 NAIA Swimming & Diving National Championships.
Halloran earned a spot in the A finals of the 200 backstroke with an eighth place finish in the preliminaries with a time of 2:08.83. In the finals she bested her prelim time by 1.74 seconds to finish in sixth with a time of 2:07.09. This is Halloran's second time earning All-American status in this event, as she earned the honor last year off of a seventh place finish. Along with achieving All-American status, Halloran also rebroke the school record in the 100 and 200 backstroke which she set in 2019. Halloran also broke the school's 200 freestyle record on Wednesday from her efforts in the 800 freestyle relay, which she set in 2018.
The squad of Logan Garzonio, Jarod Blazo, Ben Hawkins and Matthew McFalls had a 14th place finish in the men's 400 freestyle relay. The team beat their preliminary time by 1.17 seconds to finish in the finals with a time of 3:12.40. Mitchell Martin competed for Milligan in the 1650 freestyle and finished in 30th with a time of 17:13.76.
McFalls set the school record in the 200 freestyle in 2018 with a time of 1:47.44 and broke the record on Friday with a time of 1:45.65. Garzonio then went on to break that record in his leg of the 400 freestyle relay.
Seniors McFalls, Kaylee Propst and Anna Hathcock completed their Milligan careers on the final day of competition by competing in the 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 200 butterfly, respectively. McFalls finished in 35th with a time of 47.94 in the 100 freestyle, Propst finished in 24th with a time of 2:17.36 in the 200 backstroke and Hathcock finished in 25th with a time of 2:17 in the 200 butterfly.
Both teams had top 20 finishes with the women finishing in 18th and the men in 19th.
