Milligan completes day two of national championships
The Milligan College swim team completed day two of the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships Thursday afternoon. After 16 events the women’s team are in 20th place and the men are in 17th.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (March 5, 2020) – The Milligan College swim team completed day two of the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships Thursday afternoon. After 16 events the women's team are in 20th place and the men are in 17th.
The day started out with the preliminary events which saw the men's 200 freestyle relay team, Maggie Halloran in the women's 500 freestyle, the women's 400 medley relay team and the men's 400 medley relay team go on to compete in the finals.
Halloran, an All-American in the event in 2018, took ninth in the morning's preliminaries with a time of 5:10.59. Halloran went on to compete in the evening's B final and finished with a time of 5:16.22.
For the relay teams, the men's 200 freestyle relay team of Logan Garzonio, Jarod Blazo, Ben Hawkins and Matthew McFalls finished the prelims in 14th place with a time of 1:27.96 and went on to finish in 14th in the finals with a time of 1:28.10.
Both the women and the men in the 400 medley relay teams went on to compete in the final round. The women's team made up of Rachel Scheffer, Lindsey Grow, Jordan Clark and Halloran bested their prelim time by two seconds for a 13th place finish in the finals. They went into the finals in 15th with a time of 4:11.06 and in the finals had a time of 4:09.17.
On the men's side, the men dropped their prelim time down two seconds and finished in 14th in the B finals. Blazo, Hawkins, Garzonio and McFalls made up the men's 400 medley relay and finished in the finals with a time of 3:36.82.
Up next, day three of the national championships will begin Friday with the 200 medley relay teams starting the day off at 10 a.m. The full list of all of the events that Milligan will be competing in tomorrow is as follows:
