DALTON, Ga. – On Sunday afternoon in the State of Georgia, Milligan University's women's soccer team faced off with the Roadrunners of Dalton State College. Offensively, the Buffs were unable to mount much pressure, ultimately falling 2-0 to their hosts in Milligan's penultimate non-conference tuneup.
The Buffaloes are now 0-3-0 (W-L-T) on the year, while Dalton State moved to 2-0-1.
In the opening half, the Roadrunners certainly held the advantage in terms of chances, as the Buffs trailed 8-1 in the shot department. Fortunately, Akyla Walcott was able to save all five shots on goal in the frame. The match went to intermission all knotted at zero.
Dalton State would break through early on in the second half, notching an assisted goal in the 51st minute. Less than 10 minutes later, in the 60th minute, a second DSC goal was scored in unassisted fashion to make it 2-0.
Overall, Dalton State took 18 shots in the battle, while Milligan had only three. A total of 13 DSC shots were on frame, and Milligan had a single shot by Lauren Hawkley saved by the Roadrunners. Kara McDaniel missed high with a shot early in the first half, while Natalie Roper missed wide with an attempt in the second half.
Walcott held her end of the bargain by saving 11 of 13 shots that she faced on frame. Her overall record now falls to 0-3-0 with the loss.
The Buffs will play host to WVU Tech (W.Va.) on Saturday, Sept. 7 in Milligan's final non-conference game at 2 p.m. A victory before entering Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play would do wonders for the young Buffaloes squad.
