Buffs dominate Lions in quarterfinal victory
With only 27 seconds off the clock, freshman Audra Morgan gave Milligan a 1-0 lead to start the game off which propelled the Milligan College women’s soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Bryan College Tuesday night at Anglin Field.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Nov. 5, 2019) – With only 27 seconds off the clock, freshman Audra Morgan gave Milligan a 1-0 lead to start the game off which propelled the Milligan College women's soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Bryan College Tuesday night at Anglin Field.
This is the seventh consecutive win for the Buffs and the last two wins came after beating Bryan.
First half
After assisting Morgan with the first goal senior Bekah Cundiff found the back of the net in the 32nd minute to make the Milligan lead going into the second half 2-0.
Cundiff was able to connect with Morgan on the outside of the box and Morgan was able to easily drive to the goal. Cundiff's goal was assisted by sophomore Ashlen Burch who found Cundiff inside the box. Milligan outshot Bryan 13-2 in the first half.
Second half
Milligan came out dominant once again in the second half scoring three goals in the first four minutes of play. Senior Alyson McMillan scored in the 47th minute from an assist by Burch, her second of the night. Burch kicked the ball from the far side of the field into the box where McMillan was able to find the back of the net.
Senior Dharma Fawbush scored the next goal in the 48th minute off of an assist by Cundiff. Cundiff passed the ball off to Fawbush who kicked it over the goalie's head and into the net. McMillan was able to score again in the 49th minute to give the Buffs a quick 5-0 lead.
Bryan's goal was scored off of a penalty kick after a foul in the box. The goal was scored by Arielle Hansford in the 61st minute.
Overall
Milligan outshot Bryan 23-7 with 14 shots on frame. Morgan and McMillian both had four shots with two on goal and three on goal respectively. Fawbush had five shots and Calhoun had three shots with all three being on goal. In total, nine Buffs attempted to score on the night.
Up next
With tonight's quarterfinal victory the Buffs advance to the semifinals where they will face No. 1 seed Truett McConnell. Last season Milligan faced Truett in the semifinals and defeated them 2-0 to advance to the finals. The game will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, at Truett-McConnell.
