BRASELTON, Ga. (Oct. 15, 2019) – Alayna Perryman led the way for the No. 16 Milligan College women's golf team, and the Buffaloes landed runner-up at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Fall Championship Tuesday at Château Élan Golf Club.
This marked the seventh straight year Milligan finished as the winner or runner-up at the fall championship event. The Buffs have won the event four times during that span.
Perryman (80-80) led the Buffs on both days and finished tied for sixth on the individual leaderboard. Meryl Castle (12th) and Emma Brown (20th) followed as the next Buffs to score, both in the top 20, while Danielle Mirovich claimed 15th, competing as an individual.
Madison Blanton (27th) and Nellie Berglund (29th) rounded out the scoring for the Buffs, both earning spots in the top 30 in the field of over 70 competitors.
In a tight field which saw five teams within eight strokes of each other after day one, Milligan (332-329) led by four strokes through the first 18 holes. The Buffs followed on the second 18 holes shooting three strokes better, but SCAD Atlanta fired a tourney-low 320 to jump one spot and earn the top spot.
Individually, Whitney Messer of Union College carded the low two-day total with a 148 (74-74). Messer led the field by two strokes after the first day and by three strokes by the end of the event.
Up next, Milligan closes the fall portion of the 2019-20 season with a trip to Rome, Georgia, for the Chick-fil-A Intercollegiate, hosted by Berry College, Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 21-22. The Buffs then will break for the winter before returning to action during the spring semester.
