Buffaloes Women’s Bowling Posts Second-Place Result at SSAC Championships
SAVANNAH, Ga. — On Friday and Saturday, the Milligan University women's bowling squad fought valiantly to reach the SSAC Championships final against SCAD Savannah, but ended the weekend as the conference runner-up.
It was a slightly inauspicious start to the tourney for the Buffs, who dropped their first bout of the weekend on Friday against No. 3 seed SCAD Atlanta. Milligan dropped their team game by a 904-884 margin, while Emilee Horton was their top contributor with 213 pins. They also fell in the Baker games 871-811 to lose 2-0 to start the event.
Next up was a best-of-seven elimination Baker games matchup with Stillman, as the Buffs easily took care of business 4-0 to move to the next round of the loser's bracket.
The Buffs would then face Mobile with the same best-of-seven Baker games. This time around, it was a much more difficult road, as it came down to the final Baker where the Buffaloes took a 217-164 win to earn a 4-3 decision in their favor, as they reached the loser's bracket final with a chance to go to the tournament final.
Then, the rematch with SCAD Atlanta in the best-of-seven Baker games format was the last hurdle on the route to the final for Milligan. The battle went beyond regulation, as one of the bouts ended in a tie at 188-188. An eighth game decided the match, as MU won 236-181 in the eighth game to win 4.5-3.5 over SCAD Atlanta.
SCAD Savannah would take care of business over the Buffs in the championship match 2-0, but it was a strong effort to fight through such adversity from the start for Milligan.
A slow start to the SSAC Championships ended with a flurry for the Buffaloes, as they posted runner-up honors yet again, marking back-to-back second-place finishes. The squad returns to the alley on Mar. 7-9 at the USBC Sectionals.
