Buffs Women’s Bowling Finishes Third at Greater Nashville Open
SMYRNA, Tenn. – On Saturday, the Milligan University women's bowling team opened its 2024-25 season at the Greater Nashville Open in Smyrna, Tenn. The Buffs grabbed a third-place team finish at the varsity level and a team title on the JV side.
Four team games and eight baker games made up the single-day tournament format, with Milligan scoring a total of 3,550 pins in the team games and 1,383 in the baker games. Their overall total of 4,933 trailed only Pikeville and Cumberland.
Milligan's top bowler of the day was Braeton Wilson, who finished seventh as an individual. She averaged 195.5 pins/game and scored a 219 in her first team game. She totaled 782 pins across the four games.
The Buffaloes' top varsity finisher was Emily Cheesman, who finished in 10th and totaled 762 pins and had a single-game high of 224 in game two. Milligan JV1's Makayla Pounds came away with 745 pins to finish 14th as an individual. Her best game came in game three when she scored 205 pins.
Gracie Wyatt finished 15th overall for the varsity squad, knocking down 744 pins and scoring a game-high tally of 205 in game two. Taylor Phillips also finished in the top 20, grabbing the 18th spot on the individual list. She bowled a combined 731 for the day, including a game of 224.
In baker play, Milligan's varsity had a 172.9-pin average with a high of 195 in their final baker game. On the JV side, they averaged 173 per game and had a high game of 229 in their fourth baker game.
The Buffs are back in action tomorrow at the Smyrna Bowling Center for the Brandon Burns Memorial.
