MILLIGAN, Tenn. (March 9, 2024) - The Milligan University women's basketball team is going dancing.
The Buffs saw their season remain alive as they received an at-large bid to the 2024 NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship.
The tournament is a 64-team field and the first two rounds will be held at 16 host sites across the country. Milligan will play in New Orleans, La., at Loyola University Sports Complex. Milligan is the No. 14 seed in the Cramer Quadrant of the bracket and will play No. 3 seed Georgetown College (Ky.) on Friday, March 15, at 7:30 pm CT/8:30 pm ET.
The second-round game will be played on Saturday, March 16, against the winner of No. 11 seed Southeastern University (Fla.) and No. 6 seed Loyola.
This is the first time since 2019 that the Buffaloes have advanced to the NAIA Tournament and the ninth time in program history. This is also the first time Milligan has qualified for the tournament since the NAIA Division I and NAIA Division II merger.
The Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) saw four women's basketball teams earn berths, which is the most the league has ever sent the championship. Joining Milligan in the national tournament are Bryan, Pikeville, and Reinhardt.
Milligan enters the national tournament with a 23-7 overall record. The Buffs were the No. 3 seed in the AAC Tournament, winning their opening game over Montreat but lost to Reinhardt in the semifinal round. During the regular season, Milligan posted wins over two teams receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Poll and one top-20 team in Providence University (Mont.). Six of the Buffaloes' seven losses were teams that were either nationally ranked or receiving votes.
Georgetown is 24-6 on the year and received an at-large bid. The Tigers are ranked No. 10 in the most recent NAIA Coaches' Poll.
